GM’s Largest Renewable Energy Deal: Powering Assembly Plants

General Motors (GM) has announced its most significant renewable energy purchase agreement to date, partnering with NorthStar Clean Energy, a division of CMS Energy. This landmark 15-year agreement will supply renewable electricity to three major GM assembly plants, advancing the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2040. The renewable energy will be sourced from NorthStar’s Newport Solar project in Arkansas, which boasts a capacity of 180 megawatts—enough to power approximately 30,000 homes annually.

GM Expands Renewable Energy Commitment

Key Highlights:

  • 15-Year Agreement: GM’s largest renewable energy deal with NorthStar Clean Energy.
  • Assembly Plants Powered: Three GM facilities will benefit from the Newport Solar project.
  • Project Capacity: The Newport Solar project in Newport, Arkansas, has a 180-megawatt capacity.
  • Carbon Neutrality Goal: Supports GM’s objective of carbon neutrality by 2040.
